2023 WWC: Super Falcons Group Opponent Ireland Lose 3-0 To France In Friendly Game

The Super Falcons of Nigeria’s Group B opponent in the upcoming FIFA women’s World Cup, the Republic of Ireland, suffered a 3-0 defeat against France in a recent international friendly match. This loss marks Ireland’s third defeat out of five games played in 2023, with only one win and one draw to their name.

France secured a comfortable victory thanks to two goals from Maelle Lakrar and one from Eugenie Le Sommer. Lakrar opened the scoring in the first half’s added time, giving France the advantage going into the break. Le Sommer extended the lead three minutes later, making it 2-0. In the 61st minute, Lakrar struck again, securing her brace and France’s third goal of the match.

Next, the Republic of Ireland will face Colombia in another friendly game scheduled for Friday, 14 July. This match will serve as preparation for Ireland’s final Group B game against the Super Falcons, who are also making their World Cup debut.
