Barcelona Reacts to Lionel Messi’s Decision to Join Inter Miami
After much speculation over Lionel Messi’s next move, the 2022 World Cup winner has announced that he will be joining Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami, with his contract at Paris Saint-Germain set to expire at the end of June.
Messi’s father, Jorge, who is also his agent, had previously met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta to discuss a potential move back to the Catalan giants. However, Messi has chosen to move to the United States instead.
Barcelona issued a statement wishing him well while also suggesting he was going to a league “with fewer demands and less pressure.” The statement also revealed that both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi had agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barça fans to honor a footballer who has been, is, and always will be beloved by Barça.
During his time at Barcelona, Messi won numerous titles and awards, including LaLiga, Copa Del Rey, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA Best Player, and Ballon D’Or awards.
Fans around the world are eagerly anticipating Messi’s debut in the MLS, where he will join the likes of David Beckham, who is the co-owner of Inter Miami, and other football greats who have also played in the league.
Messi’s move to Inter Miami marks a new chapter in his football career, and fans will be eagerly watching to see what he can achieve in the United States.
