2023 U-20 AFCON: How Unlucky Flying Eagles Rated Vs Gambia


The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to Nigerian Football and the development of it’s youth. Following the Flying Eagles of Nigeria’s impressive 4-0 victory over Tunisia this past Friday, March 8th, to win the Bronze Medal at the 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, CAF have taken to their social media accounts to pay tribute to the Nigerian team.

The Flying Eagles, who were led by Ibrahim Muhammad, scored the first goal of the game in the eighth minute and Ahmed Abdullahi made it 2-0 in the 46th minute. Jude Sunday then scored a brace to seal the victory for the Nigerian team. This marks Nigeria’s third time of winning the bronze medal at the tournament.

In a post on their Twitter page, CAF hailed the Nigerian U-20 team, saying “NIGERIA ACHIEVE A PODIUM FINISH The Flying Eagles are the #TotakEnergiesAFCONU20 bronze medalists for the third time.”

The final of the tournament will be between Senegal and Gambia on Saturday March 9 at the Cairo International Stadium. All four semi-finalists qualified for the 2023 U-20 FIFA World Cup which will take place in Indonesia between May 20 and June 11.

This impressive victory marks yet another important milestone in Nigerian Football and a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Flying Eagles. We applaud CAF for their unwavering support and for their recognition of the success of the Nigerian team.
