Cardiff City Eyeing Super Eagles Star Chidera Ejuke
Cardiff City, a prominent Championship club, is reportedly keen on acquiring the services of Nigerian forward Chidera Ejuke. As per WalesOnline reporter Glen Williams, the club is vigorously pursuing a deal for the CSKA Moscow winger, aiming to secure him on a one-year temporary contract.
The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine has resulted in FIFA granting certain flexibilities to players in the country. Many players have either suspended or terminated their contracts due to the situation. Cardiff City hopes to take advantage of these circumstances and secure Ejuke, who suspended his own deal with CSKA Moscow to join Hertha Berlin last summer.
However, the transfer situation for Cardiff City is complicated. The club is currently under a transfer embargo due to a lengthy court case with French side Nantes regarding payment for the late Argentine Emiliano Sala. Although the club has managed to overturn the initial three-window ban to a single-window ban, which will be lifted in January, they are still unable to make financial transactions for new signings.
Ejuke’s journey in European football began when he joined Norwegian outfit Valerenga in March 2017. During his time at the club, he showcased his talent by scoring 14 goals in 65 appearances, attracting attention from other clubs. He then moved to Heerenveen, where he had a blistering season in the Eredivisie, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.
His excellent performances earned him a move to CSKA Moscow, where he continued to impress with 10 goals and eight assists in just over 60 appearances. However, his spell with Hertha Berlin did not go as planned, as the club was eventually relegated.
Cardiff City sees potential in Ejuke and is eager to secure his services for the upcoming season. With the transfer embargo still in place, the club is exploring alternative means to acquire the talented winger. The negotiations are still ongoing, and it remains to be seen if Cardiff City can successfully land the Nigerian star.
