Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana is on the verge of completing a move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin during this summer’s transfer window.
According to reports from The Athletic, the deal is expected to be a loan move without an option for Union Berlin to buy Fofana permanently. The loan agreement is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
Fofana, who joined Chelsea in the winter transfer window of 2023, signed a six-year contract with the option to extend for an additional year.
However, Chelsea’s recent signings of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig and Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal in the forward position have created a surplus of attacking options, leading to Fofana’s imminent departure from Stamford Bridge.
In addition, Armando Broja, another forward for Chelsea, is set to feature in the upcoming pre-season after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The 20-year-old Fofana made three appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea last season.
Chelsea finished the previous Premier League season in 12th place, accumulating 44 points from 38 games.
