Tempting Outsiders At This Year’s US Open

The US Open is one of the most highly anticipated golf events of the year, and with the tournament set to take place from the 15-18 June at the Los Angeles Country Club, fans are buzzing with excitement. While the likes of Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy are the top favourites, there are a few tempting outsiders who are worth considering in the betting lines.

One of these is Norway’s Viktor Hovland, who is currently priced at 18/1. Hovland has been in incredible form lately, winning the Memorial Tournament at the Muirfield Village Golf Club most recently. He finished joint seven under with the United States’ Denny McCarthy but went on to win the tournament in the playoff, marking his fourth PGA Tour victory and his first since 2021. If he can replicate this form at the US Open, Hovland could surprise some of the more favoured contenders.

Another golfer to watch out for is Australia’s Cameron Smith, who is paying 25/1 with most operators. Smith had an incredible final season as part of the PGA Tour, winning the Players Championship and Open Championship in the same calendar year. Although he has failed to replicate this success since joining the LIV Golf League, he has the talent, composure and mentality to win a major golf event again.

Finally, the United States’ Justin Thomas is another exciting outsider to keep an eye on. Although he has widened in the betting lines to 22/1 after not making the cut at the Memorial Tournament, Thomas is a two-time major champion of Thomas’ calibre. If he can return to the form that saw him win the PGA Championship in 2022, he will make plenty of his competitors nervous down the stretch of the US Open.

In conclusion, while the favourites are always a safe bet, there are a few tempting outsiders who are worth considering in the betting lines for the US Open. Keep an eye on Viktor Hovland, Cameron Smith and Justin Thomas as they could surprise the golfing world with their performances.
