Enyimba FC Claims Ninth Nigeria Premier League Title

Enyimba FC has won the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) title for the ninth time after a 1-1 draw against Rivers United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Sunday. The team secured the title after leading the NPL Super Six playoffs standings with nine points from five games.

The People’s Elephant scored the first goal of the match six minutes before half-time through Ekenne Awazie, after Rivers United failed to clear their lines. Rivers United fought back and got the equaliser through Nyima Nwagua three minutes after the break.

Enyimba FC will also represent Nigeria in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League next season. Remo Stars came second with the same points but had an inferior goal difference. The Sky Blue Stars will compete in the CAF Champions League for the first time.

Rivers United finished in third position and secured a berth in the CAF Confederation Cup, the second-tier African club competition.
