Enyimba goalkeeper, John Noble, has expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to bring back the CAF Champions League glory to Nigeria. Noble made this statement after Enyimba emerged winners of the NPL Super Six playoffs and qualified for next season’s CAF Champions League.
Enyimba is the only Nigerian club that has won Africa’s elite club competition, achieving the feat in 2003 and 2004. Finidi George’s side held former league champions Rivers United to a 1-1 draw on the final day of the NPL playoffs, which was enough to land the title.
Enyimba, alongside Remo, will play in the CAF Champions League, while Rivers United will feature in the Confederation Cup. Speaking after the team was crowned champions, Noble described it as a dream come true and promised to bring another trophy for Nigeria.
“It has been a fantastic season for us, though we didn’t start well, but here we are today as champions. We will go there (Champions League) and bring another trophy for Nigeria,” Noble said.
Enyimba’s qualification for the CAF Champions League is a significant milestone for Nigerian football, and the team will be hoping to replicate the success of the past and make the country proud.
The Nigerian league has produced several talented players who have gone on to make a name for themselves in Europe and other parts of the world. Still, the country is yet to match the success of the likes of Egypt, Tunisia, and South Africa in African club competitions.
Enyimba’s success in the Champions League will not only bring glory to the country but also attract the attention of scouts from top European clubs, which could lead to the discovery of new talents and improve the standard of football in Nigeria.
In conclusion, Enyimba’s qualification for the CAF Champions League is a significant achievement, and the team must approach the competition with the mindset of winning it. The players must play with determination, commitment, and discipline to make the country proud and bring back the glory days of Nigerian football.
