Enyimba’s goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke, expressed his delight at being named in the Super Eagles’ squad for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone. The shot stopper was included in a 23-man squad, which was released by head coach Jose Peseiro on Friday.
Olorunleke has had an impressive season with Enyimba and caught the attention of the gaffer during the ongoing Nigeria Premier League Super Six playoffs in Lagos. Speaking about his call-up, the former Akwa United goalie said he was honoured and couldn’t wait to join his teammates in camp.
“It’s a big one for me. It’s great when you work hard for something and get the reward,” Olorunleke told Completesports.com. “It’s good that players in the Nigeria Premier League are now getting the recognition we deserve. I want to be a regular in the national team. I am delighted with this invitation, but it is a challenge to keep working hard.”
Rivers United duo Victor Sochima and Ebube Duru, as well as Bendel Insurance midfielder Divine Nwachukwu, were the other three home-based players included in the squad.
The Super Eagles will face the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in a double-header on June 14 and 18. With Nigeria currently sitting at the top of their qualifying group, a win against Sierra Leone will secure their spot in the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament.
