Enyimba head coach Finidi George has expressed his frustration with the quality of officiating in his team’s recent Nigeria Premier League playoffs match against Bendel Insurance. The People’s Elephant were held to a 1-1 draw by Monday Odigie’s side, with Sadiq Abubakar giving Enyimba the lead early on before Divine Nwachukwu equalised for Bendel Insurance in the second half.
George was particularly unhappy with several penalty calls that were neglected by the officials, including two incidents where striker Chijioke Mbaoma was hacked down in the opposition box. “The officiating was poor,” George said after the game. “We deserve more from this game but we have to put this behind us. We will focus on the next game, hopefully the result will be better than what we have today.”
Enyimba will now turn their attention to their next match against Sunshine Stars on Friday, with George hoping for a better performance from both his team and the officials. Despite the disappointing result against Bendel Insurance, Enyimba remain in contention for a spot in continental competition next season and will be looking to build some momentum as they head towards the end of the season
