Enyimba coach and former Super Eagles player, Finidi George, has reaffirmed his position as the first assistant coach to Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro. Finidi, who was absent during the Super Eagles’ last outing against Guinea-Bissau, has been the subject of speculation concerning his position with the senior national team.
In an interview with Sports Salsa, a radio program, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner stated that he will join the camp next week ahead of the Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers clash against Sierra Leone. “I’m still the first assistant to Jose Peseiro and will come next week. I think the camp opens for the players to come. And I think I’ll be there if things don’t get twisted,” Finidi said.
He also added, “But first thing first, let me finish this duty with Enyimba, and if things go well, I will be in camp.” Finidi is currently the head coach of Nigeria Premier League outfit, Enyimba, and has been doing an excellent job in his role.
The former Ajax and Real Betis winger has had a successful career both as a player and a coach. His experience and expertise will undoubtedly be valuable to the Super Eagles team as they continue to prepare for the AFCON qualifiers and other upcoming tournaments.
