Yusuf Otubanjo: Nigerian Striker Extends Contract with Armenian Club Pyunik Yerevan
Yusuf Olaitan Otubanjo, the former U-17 forward of Nigeria, has recently signed a two-year contract extension with Armenian club Pyunik Yerevan. The 30-year-old player had an outstanding performance last season, scoring 17 goals and emerging as the joint-top scorer in the league.
Otubanjo had previously spent three seasons with Ararat-Armenia before joining Pyunik Yerevan last summer. During his time at Ararat-Armenia, he showcased his exceptional goal-scoring abilities, netting 28 goals in 77 appearances, which caught the attention of Pyunik Yerevan.
The football journey of Yusuf Otubanjo began in 2009 at the Emmanuel Amunike Academy. He later went on to play for notable Nigerian clubs such as Julius Berger, Gateway, and Crown FC. In 2011, he left the country to join the reserve team of Atletico Madrid. Throughout his career, he also played for RB Salzburg, FC Pashing, Blau-WeiB Linz, MSk Zilina, Rheindorf Altach, Lask, and Ararat-Armenia, before joining Pyunik Yerevan last year.
The official announcement of the contract extension was made on Pyunik Yerevan’s website, expressing their happiness in extending the partnership until 2025. They highlighted Otubanjo’s move from Ararat-Armenia to their team in the summer of 2022.
