Galatasaray Eyes Kelechi Iheanacho for Summer Transfer Window
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Galatasaray, the reigning champions of the Turkish Super Lig, are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho. Sporty9ja reports that according to Turkish publication Takvim, the 26-year-old has been added to Galatasaray’s wishlist.
Although Iheanacho is still under contract with Leicester City until 2024, the player is reportedly open to leaving the Foxes after their relegation from the English Premier League. Iheanacho is keen to avoid playing in the Championship and may be enticed by the prospect of joining a team competing in the prestigious UEFA Champions League next season.
However, Iheanacho’s current market value is estimated at 18 million euros, a price tag that might be too steep for Galatasaray. The Turkish club may opt for a loan deal to secure the talented striker instead.
During last season, Iheanacho scored five goals and provided five assists in 28 appearances for Leicester City, earning him the distinguished title of the club’s Player of the Season. Throughout his career, Iheanacho has accumulated an impressive record of 81 goals and 45 assists in 279 games.
Galatasaray is currently negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain for the permanent signing of Mauro Icardi but has not abandoned their pursuit of Iheanacho. The player’s current salary of 4.5 million euros annually at Leicester City is also a factor that Galatasaray would need to consider in their negotiations.
It remains to be seen whether Galatasaray or their arch-rivals Besiktas, who have already made an offer for the player, will be successful in securing Iheanacho’s services for the upcoming season.
