Gombe United put a stop to Bendel Insurance’s perfect start to the season, drawing their Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday six game 0-0 on Saturday.
The match, which was held at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, saw Bendel Insurance attempt to extend their perfect run of five consecutive wins, while Gombe United sought to build on their impressive form.
The game started off with both teams looking for openings, but neither side was able to break the deadlock and the score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half. The second half saw Gombe United push for a winner, but Bendel Insurance’s solid defense kept them at bay and the game ended in a draw.
The draw means Bendel Insurance remain top of Group A, with 15 points from six games, while Gombe United move up to fifth in the standings with seven points from five games.
The result is a testament to Gombe United’s resilience, as they were able to contain a team as strong as Bendel Insurance, while Bendel Insurance will be disappointed to have dropped points, having been on such a good run.
Both teams will now have a week off before they return to action on Matchday seven. Gombe United will face Wikki Tourists, while Bendel Insurance will take on Kano Pillars. Both teams will be looking to get back to winning ways and continue their respective runs in the league.
