Ighalo Backs ‘Brother’ Osimhen To Break More Records

Victor Osimhen, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker, has had an impressive career so far. He has broken and set numerous records in the 2022/23 season, including becoming the top scorer in Serie A with 26 goals, the first African to achieve this feat. Osimhen has also scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League, equaling the record set by Obafemi Martins for most goals by a Nigerian in a single season in the competition.

Furthermore, Osimhen has surpassed the legendary George Weah as the highest-scoring African in Serie A. He has also become the sixth-joint top scorer in Nigeria’s history after netting twice in the 3-2 victory against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone last Sunday.

Former Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has tipped Osimhen to break more records in his career. “Every morning I wake up, I pray that my son will be greater than me,” Ighalo told Elegbete TV. “Osimhen is like a junior brother to me, so I always wish him the best. He has passed my tally, but I’m not bothered- I want him to even do more.”

Osimhen has achieved a lot so far, winning the highest goalscorer in Serie A and helping Napoli to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. “I just want him to continue with what he’s doing, and stay humble. Hopefully, one big team will come and pick him,” Ighalo added.
