British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently confirmed that negotiations are close to being finalised, with meetings scheduled to take place in London next week.
The fight is expected to take place in Saudi Arabia in December, with Skills Challenge Promotions handling the promotion. In addition, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed fight is also planned for the same card.
Hearn is confident that the fight will happen, and believes that Prince Khalid and Skills Challenge are the right people to make it happen. He also points out that Wilder has never made the kind of money that he stands to make from this fight, and that Fury is likely to be in if the money is right.
This fight has been a long time coming, with multiple attempts to stage it in the past falling through. In 2019, a £39.3million offer was made to Joshua for a fight with Wilder, but he turned it down due to undisclosed terms in the contract that he found unacceptable.
However, with Skills Challenge offering even more money and overseeing negotiations as a third party, it seems that the stars may finally be aligning for this blockbuster showdown.
