Ighalo: I’m Still Available To Play For Super Eagles

Odion Ighalo Speaks on Possible Return to Super Eagles

Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has revealed that he is open to playing for the national team once again. The 34-year-old had retired from international football after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but later rescinded his decision. Unfortunately, his then club, Al Shabab, prevented him from playing for the Super Eagles in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ighalo, who emerged as the top scorer of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, with five goals, is still passionate about representing his country. Speaking to Elegbete TV, he said, “You never can say ‘never’ because the last time I announced my retirement, it felt too soon. But now, I do not have a lot to say other than continue my club football and see how life goes.”

The striker, who has played for top clubs like Manchester United and Watford, believes that his focus should be on his club football for now. He is currently playing for Al-Shabab FC in Saudi Arabia, where he has scored several goals to help his team move up the league table.

Ighalo’s possible return to the Super Eagles would be a significant boost to the team, especially with his experience and goal-scoring ability. The national team is set to participate in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and having Ighalo in the team would undoubtedly strengthen their chances of qualifying for the tournament.
