Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede was overjoyed after his team secured their first victory at the ongoing Nigeria Premier League Super Six playoffs. Remo Stars defeated Lobi Stars 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Friday night, much to the delight of their coach.
The Ikenne-based club had drawn their previous three games in the competition, leaving them in a precarious position in the league table. However, their win against Lobi Stars has given them a fighting chance of making it to the top of the table and securing a place in the CAF Champions League.
Speaking after the game, Ogunmodede expressed his relief and joy at the result, describing it as an “important” win for his team. “I am really happy with the way my team played today,” he said. “We have been working hard over the past few weeks to improve our performances, and it’s great to see all that hard work paying off.”
He added: “This win is very important for us. It gives us a chance to finish at the top of the table, and that would be a great achievement for the club. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are confident we can continue to improve and get the results we need.”
Remo Stars’ victory against Lobi Stars was well-deserved, as they dominated the game from start to finish. Junior Abara and Victor Mbaoma were the goalscorers for the Sky Blue Stars, with Abara’s strike coming in the first half and Mbaoma’s in the second.
The win has now moved Remo Stars up to second place in the league table, with four points from four games. They still have two games left to play in the competition, against Kwara United and Enyimba, and will be hoping to secure maximum points from those matches to boost their chances of finishing at the top.
The Nigeria Premier League Super Six playoffs is an important competition for the clubs involved, as it determines the champions of the league and the teams that will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. Remo Stars will be hoping to make history by securing a top-two finish and qualifying for the biggest club competition in Africa.
