Roche, a multinational healthcare company, has partnered with the Multiple Sclerosis Awareness in Nigeria (MSAIN) patient advocacy group to raise awareness about Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in Nigeria. The partnership aims to address the importance of early diagnosis by creating an experiential football that mirrors the signs and symptoms of the disease. The football was created using heavy “MS Symptoms and Signs” materials and an uneven, rough surface to imitate the sensory challenges of MS symptoms. A community team, Alpha FC in Abuja, used the football to gain first-hand insight into how MS affects and impairs the senses. As of recent statistics, 10,048 Nigerians are living with an MS diagnosis. Roche is actively working with neurologists and MS patient groups to increase awareness, support the improvement of MS data and registry systems, and address barriers to accessing MS care and treatment in Nigeria and Africa. The partnership hopes to increase understanding and support for the 10,048 Nigerians who have MS and advocate for further support for MS patients in Nigeria.
