Former Catalonia international Oriol Romeu has expressed his excitement about joining Barcelona and believes he will bring a new level of efficiency to the team’s midfield. Romeu, who spent three years at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, recently signed a three-year contract with the club.
In an interview with Esports3, Romeu spoke about his role in manager Xavi Hernandez’s team, stating that he would provide the much-needed balance in midfield. He explained that while Barcelona already had mobile midfielders who could drive with the ball, they were missing a player in front of the defense who could fulfill defensive duties.
Romeu, who scored two goals in 33 Laliga matches for Girona last season, is confident in his ability to contribute both in attack and defense. He believes that his positional play and defensive skills will be crucial in providing balance to the team and allowing the more attacking players to thrive.
Girona finished 10th in Laliga last season with 49 points, while Barcelona claimed the league title with 88 points. Romeu’s arrival is expected to further strengthen Barcelona’s midfield and enhance their chances of continued success.
With his experience and skills, Romeu is poised to make a significant impact at Barcelona in the upcoming 2023/2024 season. As the team gears up for new challenges, Romeu’s presence will undoubtedly be felt on the pitch.
