Stephen Keshi Stadium To Host Federation Cup Final

The Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba is set to host the Grand Finale of this year’s NFF-Tingo Federation Cup Competition on Thursday, 15th June 2023. The much-anticipated event will feature the women’s final between Cup holders Bayelsa Queens and multi-titlists Rivers Angels, followed by the men’s final between 1978 champions Bendel Insurance of Benin and multi-titlists Rangers International of Enugu.

Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens are expected to deliver one of the best finals in women’s football, given their impressive performances in the nascent CAF Women’s Champions League competitions. Bayelsa Queens, the defending champions, had overwhelmed FC Robo Queens of Lagos in the 2021 final at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

On the other hand, the men’s final is expected to be a fierce contest between Bendel Insurance and Enugu Rangers, two teams that have contested two of the most memorable finals in the history of the competition. In the 1978 final, Bendel Insurance had stunned Enugu Rangers 3-0 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, while Rangers exacted their revenge three years later with a 2-0 win.

Bendel Insurance has been in flaming form this season, being unbeaten in the abridged Nigeria Premier Football League season and posting credible performances everywhere. Meanwhile, Rangers International, on the backfoot for the larger part of the first half of the season, picked up in the second stanza and are expected to give their all in the final.
