Super Eagles coach Peseiro shuts door on new invitees amid blurry future

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have secured their place in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations competition with a game remaining against São Tomé and Príncipe. This victory over Sierra Leone has given the team a boost, but Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has made it clear that he is not interested in inviting new faces into the squad.

Speaking to the media after the game, Peseiro highlighted that constantly changing the team would hinder the development of the squad’s organization. He emphasized the importance of building a cohesive team over time, as the Super Eagles have a limited number of days to prepare for matches. Peseiro believes that a strategic balance between short-term success and long-term development is necessary.

While the Super Eagles have secured their place in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, they still have a game to play against São Tomé and Príncipe. Peseiro is focused on creating more dynamics and organization against São Tomé and Príncipe, but he is also considering how these changes will impact the team’s preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The inclusion of some other home-based players, and players like Victor Boniface, and Gift Orban in the squad seems unlikely. Peseiro has made it clear that the door to the Super Eagles is open for everybody, but he is focused on continuity and building a strong team for the future. The Super Eagles will need to continue their winning ways if they want to succeed in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
