WATCH: Super Eagles return to Lagos after sealing AFCON ticket with Sierra Leone win

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have once again proven their worth by securing their spot at the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. The Nigerian men’s national football team made a triumphant return to Lagos following their victory over Sierra Leone in Monrovia, which marked their fourth win in the qualifying campaign.

The match, which was held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, saw the Super Eagles take an early lead with Victor Osimhen scoring an impressive brace in the first half. However, the Leone Stars fought back strongly, managing to level the score before Kelechi Iheanacho secured a last-minute goal, leading to a dramatic victory for the Nigerian team.

The Super Eagles’ thrilling triumph propelled them back to the top of Group A, with an impressive 12 points out of a possible 15. The absence of a CAF-approved stadium in Sierra Leone meant that the match took place in Liberia, with the Super Eagles arriving on Saturday for the Sunday game.

Following their victory, the 2013 AFCON winners departed Monrovia and returned to their Lagos training camp. With qualification secured, Nigeria’s final AFCON qualifying match against São Tomé e Príncipe is now a mere formality and is scheduled to take place in September.
