AFCON 2023: The Super Eagles attackers that should start against Sierra Leone

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, with the aim of sealing their qualification for the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire. Coach Peseiro will be relying on his impressive attacking lineup to deliver the much-needed victory for the team.

Nigeria is blessed with some of the best forwards in the game at the moment, including Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Ahmed Musa. However, with Musa’s lack of game time, the other six players are expected to share the three attacking spaces.

Napoli star boy Osimhen is likely to lead the line for the Super Eagles, given his impressive season and his status as the highest goalscorer on the team. He could be paired with Nottingham Forest star Awoniyi, who scored ten goals for his English Premier League side last season, as Peseiro prefers to use two strikers in his setup.

There is also a high possibility that Peseiro could deploy a four-man attack, with Samuel Chukwueze playing on the right side of the attack and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman starting on the left side. Moses Simon, who has been the go-to man in the past, may have to sit for Lookman, given his poor form at Nantes.

Nigeria has always struggled to score goals despite the array of attacking talents, but Peseiro will be hoping that his team clicks in Monrovia. With the gulf in quality and FIFA rankings between both sides, the Super Eagles are expected to win, but anything could happen in football. All eyes will be on Nigeria’s attackers to deliver the goods and seal their qualification for the AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
