Virgil van Dijk is thrilled by the new-look Liverpool forward line, saying it can be the difference in their quest for Premier League glory.
The Reds hammered Manchester United 7-0 on Sunday, with January signing Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, who arrived last June, both scoring twice whilst Mohamed Salah also grabbed two goals. With Roberto Firmino, the other goalscorer, set to leave at the end of the season, it has allowed Jurgen Klopp to create a new-look attack.
The Dutchman, who was recently crowned PFA Player of the Year, believes the new front three of Salah, Nunez, and Gakpo is a major plus for the club and can have a huge impact on their title hopes.
“It’s great to have these kind of players who can make the difference in a game,” he told reporters. “It’s really special when you have players like this, they can change a game in a split second.
“It’s great to be part of this team and I’m sure this new-look forward line will be a major factor in our success this season.”
Van Dijk also praised the club’s decision to sign Nunez and Gakpo, saying they have added a new dimension to Liverpool’s attack.
“Darwin and Cody have really brought a new energy to the team and they are both very talented players,” he added. “They have both brought something different to the team and it’s great to have them here.”
With the title race hotting up and Liverpool just three points behind leaders Manchester City, Van Dijk believes the new signings can be the difference for the Reds.
“They can make all the difference in the title race and I’m sure they will have a huge impact this season,” he said.
With Liverpool now having a new-look forward line and Van Dijk at the back, the Reds could be on course for a long-awaited Premier League title.
